Royal Tales (RT) is the portfolio and playground of Taylor Stevens, a student in St. Petersburg, Florida studying creative writing. In time it will act as a convenient and well designed presentation platform for his work.
The title of this site references the idea of tall tales, or tales that are ‘royal’ in their farfetchedness. In a way every word and sentence is a lie of sorts, never truly representing what they’re employed to represent. Royal Tales is a lie and a truth. For more on this idea try Anthony Burgess’ A Mouthful of Air.
- Wordpress is the CMS I use to update the site. It’s PHP and runs off of a mySQL database. Pretty handy.
- MooTools is easier to use than jQuery; I use it primarily to showcase my photos. Every time something moves on the page, MooTools is involved.
- The MooTools class .noobslide was created to help manage photos in a slideshow. I’ve adapted the class to my needs.
- phpFlickr is used to grab my photos from my flickr account so that they can be displayed here. There’s just something to be said about displaying photos personally that makes phpFlickr necessary.
- Cufon was designed to help web-developers incorporate real fonts into their site. Royaltales uses Cufon to incorporate two: Museo Sans and Bifurcate; the prior is used for page titles, the later is used for the title header.
